Glow Up for School:

Teen Skincare Essentials for a Fresh Start!

Skin Type Identification: Start by helping them understand their skin type (oily, dry, combination, or sensitive). This can influence the products and routines they should use and if this isn’t something you are familiar with, book a consult with your local Esthetician! Consults are typically, complimentary or a small fee.

Cleansing: Explain the importance of cleansing their face twice a day to remove dirt, oil, and impurities. Suggest a gentle cleanser suitable for their skin type.

Exfoliation: Introduce the concept of exfoliation, but caution them not to overdo it. Explain that exfoliating 1-2 times a week can help remove dead skin cells and prevent clogged pores.

Moisturizing: Emphasize the importance of moisturizing to keep the skin hydrated and moisturized and YES, Even oily skin needs a good moisturizer.

Sun Protection: Stress the importance of using sunscreen daily to protect against UV damage, which can cause premature aging and increase the risk of skin cancer. Recommend a broad-spectrum SPF 30 or higher.

Acne: Teach them about acne and how to manage it. Suggest products with ingredients like salicylic acid or benzoyl peroxide & explain the importance of not picking at blemishes as this creates scarring and can spread the bacteria to other areas on face.

Diet and Hydration: Explain that a balanced diet and plenty of water can benefit their skin and that if they are not eating well, this will show in their skin’s appearance.

Sleep: Stress the importance of adequate sleep for overall skin health.

Personal Preference: Let them help pick products that fit their skin type and concerns. This involvement can make them more invested in their routine.

Educational Material: Share reliable sources, like Esthetician' blogs or YouTube/Tiktok channels from skincare experts, for them to learn more.

Lead by Example: Practice good skincare habits yourself to demonstrate the importance of the routine.

Body Image: Be sensitive to how skin issues can affect self-esteem. Offer support and encourage a positive body image.
