Sunburn Recovery Tips!

Heal your sunburn like an Esthetician would! (not that we get burned, but on a rare occasion it happens!)😎

As we are forced to embrace living on the surface of the sun (jk, sort of..) we naturally seek being in or near waterways to beat the heat, which often results in over exposure to the sun, aka sunburns!

So let’s chat about the effects of sunburn, what happens when your skin gets burnt, and essential tips on healing your skin after over exposure or burning.

Understanding Sunburn:

Sunburn occurs when UV rays from the sun damage the outer layer of your skin, causing it to redden, become tender, and sometimes peel. This damage can accelerate aging and increase the risk of skin cancer, making sun protection vital to your overall health.

What Happens to Your Skin:

When you're sunburned, your skin undergoes inflammation as a natural response to the UV damage. This can cause pain, swelling, and in severe cases, blistering. Over time, repeated sunburns can lead to premature aging and contribute to skin cancer development.

How to Repair and Soothe Your Skin:

Cool Compresses: Apply cool, damp cloths to the affected areas to reduce heat and inflammation.

Hydrate: Drink plenty of water to help your body heal from the inside out. but not only hydrate your body, hydrate the affected area specifically. Use hydrating toners and recovery mists, Hyaluronic Acid (on damp skin), or Beta Glucan to accelerate healing.

Moisturize: Apply intensely moisturizing creams and lotions to the affected area. Look for products with ingredients like: Ceramides, Skin friendly oils like: Jojoba, Argan, Vitamin E, and Shea butter.

Avoid Further Sun Exposure: Stay out of the sun until your skin has healed completely. If you must go out, wear protective clothing because if you are burnt, SPF will not be enough.

"We need to understand that sunburn itself does not cause skin cancer. It is the overexposure to the dangerous ultraviolet radiation that damages skin cells, weakening them and creating the opportunity for cancer to form."
